What is a school appeal panel?
Sometimes, a child doesn’t get a place at the school their family wanted. When this happens, the family can appeal. A panel of volunteers listens to both sides and helps decide what’s fair.
What you’ll do
As a panel member, you will:
- Read the appeal documents before the meeting
- Listen to the family and the school
- Help decide if the school’s decision was fair
- Be fair and impartial
Who can volunteer?
You can apply if you:
- Are over 18
- Want to help your community
- Can be fair and keep things private
- Are happy to read documents and attend meetings
You don’t need any special experience. People from all backgrounds are welcome.
What’s involved?
- Attend a one-day training course (usually in February in Stafford)
- Join 3 or 4 panels a year
- Meetings are usually held during the day
- Travel costs are paid
