Safeguarding and Wellbeing

Guidance and advice

The Council is committed to providing safe learning environments for all its learners and those accessing its services

We want everyone to feel safe and know what to do if you have any concerns.

Your safety, health and wellbeing are important to us.

We will:

  • treat any concerns seriously and sensitively.
  • ensure all staff, learners and property are respected.
  • ensure all learning venues and online resources are health and safety compliant.
  • follow safe recruitment processes when employing all staff.
  • ensure our courses are safe and inclusive.

You have the right to feel safe where you learn. Other people should not hurt or abuse you.

Prevent is part of the government’s counter terrorism strategy. It is about keeping you safe online and in your community.

We have a duty to inform you about Prevent.

 We help you to:

  •  understand extremism and radicalisation.
  •  be active citizens in modern Britain.
  •  understand British Values.

If you have any concerns, or need to tell us about something you are worried about, contact our designated safeguarding lead:

Health and Safety

Help us to ensure we have a safe, healthy and secure learning environment by:

  • Following evacuation procedures for the building or premises
  • Reporting accidents, incidents and hazards
  • Not smoking or vaping in learning environments

Please speak to your course tutor if you have any health and safety concerns

It is important that you keep safe and know what to do in the extremely unlikely event that you are involved in a terrorist attack.

We want you to know what to do in this situation, as it is better to be prepared.

To stay safe, remember the words:

Run, hide, tell

 Staying safe online

We want you to stay safe online.

Tasks for you to do:

  • update the software on your device when it tells you.
  • use firewalls and antivirus software to keep your wireless network secure.
  • create strong passwords and PINs, and do not tell anyone what they are.
  • lock your device with a PIN or password when you are not using it.
  • make sure websites are secure - look for web addresses starting https
  • check your privacy settings. (E.g. Set your personal information to private on your social media account, so you know who can see your information and photos).

Remember:

  • be cautious when opening emails from people that you don’t know.
  • don’t click on links in emails unless you are sure what they are.
  • make sure you know how to report abuse on social media sites, websites and forums.
  • keep evidence of cyber-bullying if you need to report it. Do not reply to or share cyber-bullying messages, comments or images using email or chat groups.
  • don’t get drawn into arguments on social media.
  • be aware of fake adverts and people trying to sell you things online.
  • use trusted search engines and websites. Think - is this information likely to be true?
  • never agree to meet anyone you have met online. Remember, not everyone online is who they say they are.
  • avoid extremist ideas or illegal behaviour – don’t believe everything you read!
