Why are we consulting with you?

Staffordshire County Council is recommissioning its Healthwatch service from 1 April 2018.  Local councils are legally required to provide these services, but have a choice as to how they are best delivered. To do this we are exploring ideas for how Healthwatch could be delivered in the future to ensure it meets the needs of local people and influences the future of health and care services.

As Healthwatch is an independent champion acting on behalf of local people, it’s really important that everyone who uses or may need to use this service has a say about how it is delivered.  Your opinions about what you want from Healthwatch are important to us.

What is Healthwatch?

Healthwatch is an independent consumer champion for people who use health and social care services. Their job is to gather experiences and opinions from patients, carers, service users and the wider public about health and care services. This includes hospitals, GPs, mental health services, community health services, pharmacists, opticians, residential care and home care services. It then works with these organisations, making sure those views and experiences are used to improve services for all.

The organisation also provides information and signposting services to support local people in finding the right health and social care services and how to access them. It also has a statutory authority to carry out Enter and View visits to locations where health and social care services are being delivered, monitoring the standard of provision and reporting back its findings for action.

How do I have my say?

You can have your say by completing the online survey below, either in your capacity as a member of the public or in your role representing an organisation.

Alternatively, you can download and print a paper version.

What will happen next?

After the consultation has ended we will consider the views of local people and organisations along with any other relevant information and will use this to decide on the best model for Healthwatch Staffordshire in the future.
