Newcastle High Street

Together with Amey we are carrying out footway resurfacing and paving works along High Street, Newcastle:

PDF DocumentHigh Street extents plan (597 KB)

When are the works taking place?

The works started on 22 January 2018.

When will the works be completed?

The programmed completion date is 31 August 2018.

Will I be able to access my home/business?

Works will be carried out in small sections to keep disruption to a minimum, and to maintain access to shops and frontages as far as practically possible.

From 19 Feb until late August, the taxis will operate from Hassell Street instead of High Street at all times to allow the works to be carried out safely.

From 2 July for a period of five weeks High Street will be closed to all vehicles from Paradise Street to Hick Street to allow works to be completed safely at the narrower sections of the street.

When these works are being carried out the pedestrians will be diverted onto the carriageway, hence the reason for the closure.

What effect could the works have on me?

We take care to make sure that work is completed with the minimum of disturbance to the local community but as with any major works, it is expected that delays will be experienced.
