The Highways Development Control team carries out duties on planning applications that have an impact on transport. We respond to planning application consultations from the County, District and Borough Councils, as well as the Peak Park Planning Board. We also have an input into local plan reviews, development and design briefs.
When new developments are planned, we look at the benefits to transport and advise the authorities whether the developments are satisfactory and can be incorporated into the transport system.
What are our aims?
We aim to make sure that:
- Public and highway safety interests are safeguarded
- All transport types are considered
- The developer works around any negative impacts of the proposed development with sustainable transport and demand management plans, including improvements to the highway
What else do we do?
We help with local planning authorities and the house building industry in carrying out the objectives set out in the manual for streets. View more about the manual for streets on the Gov.uk website. We work together with other authorities and partnering organisations to help attract investment into the County. We advise the Traffic Commissioner, as appropriate, on Heavy Commercial Vehicle applications.
We work within a policy framework and liaise closely with Transport Planning and Policy to make sure that work is consistent.
We also work closely with colleagues in Highways to make sure that permitted developments bring the best benefits to the public.
