What is the 'Your Staffordshire Card'?

The 'Your Staffordshire Card' is a pass that allows young people aged 11 to 19 to travel by bus for a discounted rate. This is just £1.30 per journey.

The card will be valid until 31 August 2019 and costs £10. If you lose the card or turn 16 before the expiry date you will need to pay another £10 for a replacement. Please bear this in mind before you apply  or if you will shortly turn 16.

The journey must begin or end in the Staffordshire County Council area. This does not include Stoke-on-Trent.

How do I apply?

You can apply online. Alternatively you go to your nearest staffed library with proof of your identity, age and residence. Under 16s need parental permission. There is a £10 charge.

Where can I use my pass?

As the pass is funded by Staffordshire County Council it is only available to residents in this area and journeys must start or end in the Staffordshire County Council area.

If you don't know which bus you need to catch, an online journey planner is provided by Traveline. The Traveline journey planner includes other public transport options as well as buses and can also be accessed by phone on 0871 200 22 33 (calls cost 12p per minute, plus your phone company’s access charges).

Will I be charged if I lose my pass?

Yes. There is a £10 charge for lost or damaged passes, this covers the cost of the card, production and administration. If you lose your you pass there will still be a £10 charge. You will not receive a 12 month pass, but one with an expiry of 31st August 2019.

What is the future of the 'Your Staffordshire Card'?

The decision has been made to phase out financial support for the Your Staffordshire Card (YSC) youth scheme. There are many alternative commercial ticketing options available for young people, providing competitive alternatives to the YSC scheme.

Which services can I use it on?

You can use it on bus journeys that start or finish anywhere in the County Council area. This does not include Stoke-on-Trent. Please check with your local operator until 31st August 2019 when the scheme ends .

The card does not give you access to discounted bus travel outside Staffordshire. For long-distance journeys where you need to change buses you get the Staffordshire leg of the journey for a discount rate.

Please note: If you have to change buses within Staffordshire, each part of the journey will cost you another fare.

What kind of photo will I need for my pass?

The photo for your card needs to adhere to the following criteria:

  • The photograph cannot be blurry and must capture all facial detail.

  • The background of the photograph must be light grey or cream.

  • Facial features must not be covered and should be fully visible.

  • The subject must not be too close or too far away from the camera, the photograph should show the all of the head, face and neck.

  • Eyes must not be covered, take care that the frames of glasses do not obstruct the eyes.

How do I use the 'Your Staffordshire Card'?

The card must be shown before paying for your fare to receive your discount.

When will I get my card?

Once you have received your confirmation email your card will usually be sent out within 10 working days. Make sure you check your inbox to check that your photo has been accepted.

What if my card is lost in the post?

We can reissue cards that have been lost in the post 14 days after dispatch. If you suspect that your card has been lost in the post, please  contact us within one calendar month to inform us.

If the original card turns up after this date you will not be able to use it, we will cancel the original card so it cannot be read on smart card readers. Please note that replacement cards will have an expiry date of 31 August 2019.

I don't like my photo, can I change it?

We can update the photo when you renew your pass but not once a pass has been printed, so choose wisely!

What am I entitled to if I am disabled?

You are entitled to free bus travel if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Registered blind or partially sighted

  • Severely or profoundly deaf

  • Without speech

  • Have a disability or injury which has a substantial and adverse effect on your ability to walk

  • Loss of the use of both arms or without arms

  • Learning disability

  • Would be refused a driving licence because of physical fitness
