Locally:

  • Potential impact of missed early years development on children, as well as lost education time on attainment – Staffordshire already has the lowest KS4 attainment (36.9) amongst similar authorities, with the disadvantage gap likely to widen.
  • The mental health risks are high for both Staffordshire’s younger people and adults
  • Potential to further increase child excess weight levels – with inactivity possibly increased during remote schooling.
  • Despite COVID-19, unemployment rates are well below national and regional averages at 3.6% (September 2021). Youth unemployment is a key focus with support being put in place.
