Information on Exclusions

When entering an exclusion on SIMS.net you must ensure that it is not only entered on the Student attendance with the code 'E', but that you also complete the exclusion field, this will auto populate the attendance marks for you. Please see guidance of entering exclusions below.

Permanent, fixed term and lunchtime exclusions data is collected in the termly School Census. The data included in a particular return will be two terms in arrears.

Additional Information

Schools are required to notify the LA and the governing body about all exclusions and should be entered on SIMS.net

For a fixed period exclusion of 5 days or less the school is only required to notify the local authority and the governing body on a termly basis. By ensuring that the exclusions are entered onto SIMS.net accurately (please see above notes) this will inform the local authority and no further action will be required by the school.

For a fixed period exclusion of 6-15 days it is also advisable to contact your relevant District Inclusion Officer .

For a fixed period exclusion of 16 days or more; or a permanent exclusion you must contact the Local Authority without delay on the below details.
