Pupil Information Regulations 2005

To give it its full title the 'Education (Pupil Information) (England) Regulations 2005' is an addition to the Education Act 1996 and fulfils numerous functions including defining the content of a Common Transfer File (CTF). It is particularly relevant from an Information Governance perspective as it also provides for the disclosure of curricular and educational records.

Under the Regulations those entitled (children with capacity, parents and people with parental responsibility) can make a written request to view a copy (for free) or have a copy (on payment of reasonable photocopying fees) of their (child's) education record. Once a written request is received you have 15 school days to comply, during which time you will need to compile and prepare the file for release.
