Entry requirements
No prior experience needed, but an interest in animals, nature, and the countryside is beneficial. Participants must commit to all sessions, work towards learning goals, and complete a learner journal. Learning support is available throughout the course.
Course Content
This course covers a variety of creative writing techniques, including journalling, storytelling, and poetry. You will explore different themes for inspiration, such as nature, personal experiences, and emotions. Through guided exercises, you will develop your writing skills and learn how to express your thoughts and ideas creatively. Each session offers the opportunity to share and reflect on your work, helping you grow as a writer in a supportive environment.
Learning methods
The course combines guided writing exercises, group discussions, and individual journaling time. You will explore different writing prompts and themes, receive constructive feedback, and have the chance to share your work in a supportive environment. Personal reflection and creative exploration are key components, with plenty of opportunities for one-on-one guidance.
Learning materials
All writing materials, including journals, pens, and course handouts, access to I-pads to take photos will be provided. You will also receive prompts and resources to inspire your creative writing throughout the course. You may like to bring along any scrapping booking materials to decorate your personalised journals!
Learner Support
Learning support is available throughout the course. You will receive personalised feedback on your writing, guidance on developing your skills, and assistance with any challenges you may face. Whether through group discussions or one-on-one support, we are here to help you succeed and grow as a writer and creative journaler.
Course Assessments
Assessment for this course is based on your personal progress and participation rather than formal exams. You will be encouraged to keep a journal, complete writing exercises, and engage in group discussions. Feedback will be given on your work to help you improve and develop your skills. The focus is on creativity, reflection, and growth as a writer and journaler, with support provided throughout to help you meet your learning goals.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress onto further learning opportunities with UMRA, including courses in preparing for volunteering or other courses to build on the skills gained. They may also be supported to access the Staffordshire Brokerage Service, linking them to the Open Door or Connect to Work programmes to explore work experience, volunteering, training, and employment opportunities in gardening, conservation, or related fields.
Are there any fees?
This course is fully funded and therefore there are no course fees.
