Course content - What you will learn
This course will help you to create and run a community event – selling products that you have designed and created as part of the course. You will be able to work as part of a team, gain more confidence using maths, English and digital skills. We will discuss your personal goals and how to listen and communicate with others successfully. This course will support your independence and your next step towards volunteering or work.
Who is the course aimed at?
This is an introductory course for Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, learn new English, Maths and Digital Skills, including those who are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who have a learning difficulty or unemployed.
Entry requirements
No prior experience or formal entry requirements are needed to take part in this course, just an interest in gaining confidence in your English, Maths and Digital skills and an interest in local history. You will be able to work with others as part of a team, and design, make and market rustic products steeped in the history of Stafford Castle.
Learning methods - how you will learn
This is a face-to-face learning course - you will complete 5 hours face to face at CARE. The course will provide an opportunity to use and develop some digital skills using digital devices provided by CARE.
Learning support
Your Tutor will support your learning, including help with IT skills to research ideas, photograph and record your work. Transport is available from Cannock Leisure Centre, Penkridge Village, Stafford Sainsbury's, The Royal Oak car park at Rising Brook.
Learning materials - what you will need to bring
All course resources and equipment will be provided by CARE. You will have an opportunity to forage for natural resources and use upcycled materials too.
Course assessments - how you will be assessed
At the start of your course the tutor will find out a little more about you, your previous learning, the support you may need, what you would like to achieve on the course and guide you to set some personal goals. During the course you will be asked to reflect on your learning at regular points and will receive feedback from your tutor on your progress and achievement. You will receive a personal certificate of achievement at the end of the course.
What can learners do next / progress onto
At the end of the course you will be provided with information/advice on other learning opportunities/local activities available on-line and in your community. This could include vocational skills courses in Horticulture, Environmental studies, Green Crafts, Local History and wider personal development including English, Multiply numeracy and digital skills. Family learning/wellbeing courses to support you and your family are also signposted through SCC CL Course Directory.
