Who is this course for?
This Skills Bootcamp is for adults who want to start or develop a career working with data.
It is suitable for:
- People changing careers
- Jobseekers
- Employees who want to build practical data skills
- Learners with little or no experience of Power BI
The course is ideal if you enjoy solving problems, working with data and turning information into useful insights.
It can help prepare you for entry-level roles such as:
- Data Technician
- Junior Data Analyst
- Reporting Analyst
- Business Intelligence Assistant
You will work through a realistic workplace scenario and build a Power BI project throughout the course. Instead of traditional written assignments, you will develop practical skills and create a portfolio of work.
By the end of the 13-week programme, you will complete and present an independent data project to demonstrate your skills to employers.
Entry requirements
You do not need any previous experience of Power BI or data analysis.
You should:
- Have basic digital skills
- Be confident using spreadsheets
- Have suitable English and numeracy skills
- Be able to commit to the full 13-week programme
- Complete practical project work and a final presentation
- Have access to a suitable computer and reliable internet connection
What you will learn
You will learn how to:
- Source, organise and securely collect data
- Clean, validate, combine and filter datasets
- Use statistics to identify trends and patterns
- Create accessible Power BI dashboards and reports
- Present findings to different audiences
- Publish and share reports securely
You will also learn about:
- General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- Data anonymisation
- Ethics and inclusion
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Prompt engineering
- Sustainable data practices
At the end of the course, you will create and present your own data project.
Learning materials
You will need:
- A Windows laptop that can run Power BI Desktop
- A laptop charger
- Reliable internet access
- A pen and notebook (optional)

How you will learn
You will learn through:
- Tutor demonstrations

You will use Moodle before and after lessons to access resources, activities and study materials.
Each week, you will build and improve a Power BI project. You will then complete an independent capstone project, deliver a presentation and reflect on your learning.
The programme also includes induction and careers support sessions.

How you will be assessed
Assessment is based on practical work and your portfolio.
- Weekly Power BI tasks: 40%
- Independent capstone project and presentation: 40%
- Reflective account: 20%
The reflective account uses Gibbs' Reflective Cycle and can be submitted as either:
- An 800 to 1,000-word written reflection, or
- A five-minute recording

After completing the course, you could progress into roles such as:

You can also continue your learning through:
- Microsoft Power BI certification
- A Level 4 Data Analyst apprenticeship
