Staffordshire History Festival

Staffordshire History Festival Events in September and October

September sees the start of the Staffordshire History Festival across Staffordshire Libraries and Arts, Archives and Museums – a two-month celebration of our local history and cultural heritage in Staffordshire. There will be a range of events, activities, exhibitions and other opportunities to engage with our glorious past.

Whether you’re interested in finding out about your family tree, your community’s history, the vast range of historical documents held in the County, or events and exhibitions to commemorate the Great War, there will be something for you during the Staffordshire History Festival.

Choose from over 90 events run or hosted by Staffordshire’s Libraries, Arts, Archives and Heritage services. Exhibitions, talks, traditional craft workshops, history walks, history and heritage open days, family history sessions and activities for children will be running throughout September and October. There will also be events or exhibitions that will link with the commemorations of the Great War, in particular the impact of the war on Staffordshire and its people.

For all general local studies interest, our libraries hold a range of useful material, such as newspapers, trade directories and parish registers. A few libraries have collections of local photographs.

Library members also have free access at all library computers to Ancestry Library Edition, a top genealogy resource, Find My Past and NewsBank.

Staffordshire County Council Libraries Chief, Libraries Gill Heath says:

“It’s great to see Staffordshire Libraries offering so many interesting events for the Staffordshire History Festival. The aim of this two-month celebration is to bring local and family history and culture alive and to help people discover the fascinating stories about the places where they live and show everyone how important libraries are in helping people on this journey of discovery. For many of us, the local library is our best gateway to learning more about local history and culture.”

Contact your local library for details of events in your area, or view online at Our libraries page or keep an eye on the Staffordshire Libraries Facebook Page or Twitter @StaffsLibraries for regular updates and events listings with the hashtag #SHF2017
