Could you be the next Staffordshire Poet Laureate?

Staffordshire poets are invited to put themselves forward for the role of Staffordshire Poet Laureate.

Staffordshire County Council Libraries and Arts Service who administer and support this role are looking for the next  Staffordshire Poet Laureate to take on this two year position which aims to promote appreciation and engagement of poetry across the county.  Applicants must live or study in Staffordshire, be  aged 18 plus and share a love of poetry and a desire to promote it.  The successful applicant will take up their role at the end of September 2017.

During his time as the current Poet Laureate, Bert Flitcroft  has started a Poetry Collection to help develop a cultural identity for Staffordshire by creating a picture of the county in words. The collection includes work from Poet Laureates past and present as well as poems from a whole range of different people from all over the County.

Bert Flitcroft said: “I have very much enjoyed my time as Staffordshire Poet Laureate and would thoroughly recommend others to apply. I enjoyed the challenge of writing a range of poems I would not otherwise have written, and the whole experience has given me a much deeper appreciation of the County as a whole.”

Entries for Poet Laureate close on 30th August 2017.

Winners will be announced on National Poetry Day, 28th September 2017.

To apply please see the poet laureate page.
