IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire 2023

The date of Sunday 11 June 2023 has been announced for this year’s IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire triathlon by the event organisers.

The sporting spectacle will see up to 3,000 athletes compete in a gruelling 70.3 mile race across Staffordshire, incorporating a 1.2-mile swim at Chasewater Country Park, followed by a 56-mile bike through the Staffordshire countryside and Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, finishing with a 13.1-mile run ending in Stafford town centre.

Plan ahead for IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire

Residents, businesses and visitors are urged to plan ahead for travel during the event weekend.

If you live, work or plan to visit or travel near any of the route outlined above, then you are urged to look at the traffic access page on the official IRONMAN STAFFORDSHIRE website and plan any travel or journey that you intend to make on the weekend of 10th and 11th June 2023 accordingly.

There will be unrestricted access for emergency services at all times.

Staffordshire County Council remains as focused as ever on creating a safe and enjoyable event for both participants and spectators, 

Delivering an event which is safe and enjoyable for everyone has remained a priority throughout the planning stages. All the planning for the event has been led by the IRONMAN organisation alongside local councils, police, fire and emergency services.

The event helps provide a massive boost to the local economy and is always a very popular event with residents and visitors, and we want our communities and businesses to enjoy IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire on Sunday 11 June 2023.

Having an event like this in the calendar really gives competitors, spectators and our local businesses something to look forward to.

It gives us an opportunity to showcase Staffordshire to visitors from across the UK and internationally; including our country parks, outstanding countryside and the county town.

More about IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire

Established in 2015, the event quickly grew to become the biggest Ironman 70.3 race in the UK. The race has attracted some of the UK and the world’s best professional athletes.

The event consists of a 1.2-mile swim at Chasewater Country Park, followed by a 56-mile bike through the Staffordshire countryside and Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, finishing with a 13.1-mile run.

The economic benefits of hosting IRONMAN

The Ironman 70.3 Staffordshire event incorporated Staffordshire tourist attractions including; Chasewater, Cannock Chase and Stafford Town Centre.

Following the 2022 event IRONMAN reported their estimate of the economic benefits of hosting the event in Staffordshire. IRONMAN estimates a total impact of £2.05 million from expenditure by athletes, athletes’ families and friends, other event attendees, estimated spectator spend, and spend by IRONMAN themselves.
