Charges have been introduced for certain non-household waste at all of the Staffordshire Household Waste Recycling Centres.
The information is provided as a guide to the chargeable items. Any disagreement on site regarding the charges should be referred to the site managers whose decision is final.
It is a statutory duty for the sites to accept household waste for free, this is waste produced in the normal day-to-day occupation of a home. Additional waste such as landscaping or construction work is considered as non-household waste and we do not have to accept this waste
As a result, we will charge for the disposal of some non-household waste which includes soil and rubble, plasterboard and tyres at our recycling centres. The charge will contribute to overheads and the cost of disposing of the materials.
Charging will ensure that we can continue to offer disposal facilities for these materials to residents, who would otherwise find them difficult to get rid of and will ensure that the system is not abused by those seeking to dispose of trade waste for free.
Charges will apply to some non-household waste, we have put together a list of chargeable items (298 KB). Restrictions are in place for some waste streams with no charge for disposal.
The charges will be based upon the quantity of material deposited using the rates given. Payment for bags*/sheets will be whole multiple of bags/sheets.
£3 per bag or unit ( e.g. a toilet)
£4 per bag or 180cm x 90cm sheet.
Tyres on or off the rim
£4 per tyre
There is no charge for bicycle tyres.
* Charges are based standard rubble bags which are approximately 76cm x 96 cm. They are available from DIY stores or you can buy them from the recycling centre for 10p. Waste can be presented loose or in different sized bags and charges will be estimated by staff.
Please note: these charges only apply to householders. They do not apply to trade waste which has a separate scheme.
- You can continue to dispose of ordinary household waste, including green garden waste, fridges, freezers, TVs, large and small electrical items, wood and bric-a-brac free of charge. Some non-household waste items can continue to be disposed of free of charge, although disposal limits apply.
All payments must be made via debit or credit card on site. All major cards are accepted with the exception of American Express.
Please note: no cash or cheques will be accepted.
Any questions as to whether something is eligible for charging, or how much the charge is, should be directed to the site attendant. Any disagreement on site should be referred to the site managers whose decision is final.
