We are responsible for the promotion, management and conservation of the historic environment in Staffordshire. This includes its:

  • archaeology
  • historic buildings
  • historic landscapes

We also manage and develop the Historic Environment Record. 

Data and advice

We receive data and advice as well as:

  • National government and local planning authorities
  • Other external agencies and organisations
  • Planners and developers

It is also provided to the general public and for educational purposes.

We also assist in the development of policies and standards, both at regional and national level.

Details and reports on some of the major projects relating to the historic environment undertaken by and on behalf of the County Council, including the recently completed Extensive Urban Survey project are available.

Natural environment

Our Natural Environment Team is responsible for conserving, maintaining and enhancing the natural environment. This includes landscape and nature and wildlife conservation) through properly informing the planning process.

We provide specialist environmental advice and support to outside organisations, the voluntary sector and the general public.
