Millennium Walks

The 'Way for the Millennium' is an eight-part walk which spans the length and width of Staffordshire. It starts in the Stafford area with the following walks:

Staffordshire Tolkien Trail

The Staffordshire Tolkien Trail is a series of three linked walks focusing on Staffordshire's Tolkien connection.

The following two of the three walks fall within the Stafford area:

  • The Great Haywood walk
  • The Gypsy Green and Brocton Camp walk

Hanchurch Hills walks

There are three waymarked trails that start from Hanchurch Hills Picnic Area.

The Green Walk

Distance: 3.5 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Starting point: Hanchurch Hills Picnic Area

The Green Walk, at three and a half miles in length, covers a variety of wooded and pastoral landscapes, mainly focusing on the village of Hanchurch.

The Red Walk

Distance: 2 miles
Estimated walk time: 45 minutes
Starting point: Hanchurch Hills Picnic Area.

The Red Walk climbs the high ground of Harley Thorns woodland and offers panoramic views of the Wrekin in Shropshire and Cannock Chase.

The Blue Walk

Distance: 7 miles
Estimated walk time: 2 hours 15 minutes
Starting point: Hanchurch Hills Picnic Area.

The Blue Walk takes you to the hamlet of Beech. A short diversion from the circular walk at Beech allows you to explore the local caves.

Milford Common trails

There are three waymarked trails that start from Milford Common, on the northern edge of Cannock Chase Country Park.

Red Trail

Length: 2 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 hour
Starting point: The trail begins at the start of the Heart of England Way.

Facilities: There is parking at Milford Common, along with a pub, fast food restaurant, toilets and an information point.

Green Trail

Length: 2 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 hour

Starting point: The trail begins in the same way as the Red Trail, at the start of the Heart of England Way, but splits off onto the left hand track at Mere Pool.

Facilities: There is parking at Milford Common, along with a pub, fast food restaurant, toilets and an information point.

Blue Trail

Length: 2 miles
Estimated walk time: 1 hour
Starting point: Coppice Hill car park or as an extension to the Red or Green Trails.
Facilities: Parking is available at Coppice Hill.

Shugborough Hall and Sherbrook Valley circular walk

Distance: 8 miles
Estimated walk time: 4 hours
Starting point: Seven Springs car park.

Facilities: Parking at Seven Springs car park, toilets and refreshments are available in Milford, which is a short detour from the main walk.

This walk begins along the Trent and Mersey Canal. The walk then enters the Shugborough estate, before reaching The Satnall Hills and Milford Common and returning to Seven Springs via the Stepping Stones.
