Nursery Age Admissions

How do I choose a nursery school?

Please see the choosing a nursery school page for information.

Some families are eligible for a total of 30 hours early years funding. To enquire whether your preferred nursery nursery works in partnership with any other provider(s) to provide 30 hours of early years education please contact the nursery directly.

There are many settings available that offer early years educations for 3 and 4 year olds such as:

  • private and voluntary day nurseries

  • independant schools

  • playgroups

These may offer free early education places. Some of them may be based at a school and may be run by the school governors or by a private provider.

You can find details of providers in your local area by visiting the Staffordshire family services directory.

How can I apply for a nursery place?

This will depend on your chosen nursery's application process.

The majority of nusery settings process their own applications.

From September 2019 onwards all schools will manage their own nursery school admissions process.

Which school based nurseries can I apply for through the County Council's online portal?

We provide a list of those PDF Document school based nurseries (296 KB) where the application process is through our online portal.

If the nursery you wish to apply for is not listed, you will need to contact the setting directly for details of their application process including relevant closing dates.

When does the County Council's online portal open?

You can apply online from 18 January 2018. The closing date for submitting your application is 05 March 2018.

What if I can't use the online portal?
