SEND Support: Joint Statement of Action

Posted on Wednesday 1st May 2019

The Written Statement of Action for supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities in Staffordshire.

In Staffordshire, the system of support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is under significant pressure. The number of children with a special educational need or disability has increased by a third in the last five years and national funding has not kept pace with this.

In November 2018, Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission undertook a Local Area inspection of the way professionals at the county council, in local health services and education providers work with families support children with SEND.

The inspection report was published on the Ofsted website in February 2019. It highlights some strengths but there are many areas which need significant improvement.

We have big ambitions for children with special education needs and disabilities and want to see them thrive.

Together with our partners in education, health and social care as well as with local parents, we have developed a formal Written Statement of Action to drive the improvements we all want to see.
