Co-production promise

Learn about co-production and how we utilise it.

What is co-production?

Co-Production is a way of working and making decisions.

It means working with people, rather than making decisions for people.

Staffordshire County Council is committed to working co-productively with Staffordshire residents.

We know that by working in this way we will improve services and lived experience of accessing those services.

We know the value of 'lived experience' and understand that involving people who have lived experience is vital to make informed decisions.

We also know that working in this way will help to improve services and Staffordshire residents experiences of services.

Here are some videos to explain more about what co-production is:

Staffordshire’s Co-production Promise.

In 2022 Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services (SCVYS) was commissioned by Staffordshire County Council to support the creation of a Staffordshire Co-production Promise for the Children and Families system.

As part of this work we also created a toolkit to support people responsible for providing services to use a co-production approach and do it well.

The Staffordshire Co-Production Promise was co-produced by local children, young people, parents, carers, adults and professionals from across the support system.

As part of the Staffordshire Co-production Promise, all involved agreed a local definition of co-production and some shared commitments to improve the experience of support as well as the outcomes from that support for families.

Watch a video about the Staffordshire Co-production Promise:

Staffordshire Co-production Promise - Co-production Definition:

“People with responsibility for providing support, sharing their power by working with those receiving that support at every step, so that the help provided is as good as it can be and makes life better.”

We also agreed to 5 commitments:

These are:

  • We will be person centred
  • We will communicate well with each other
  • We will work together
  • We will be consistently good in our practice
  • We will get better at the way we work and what we want to do

In 2023 the Co-production Promise was adopted by our Health and Care Directorate.

We use the Staffordshire Co-production Promise across Staffordshire County Council as a consistent and adaptable approach to work with Staffordshire residents including people who access commissioned services, their carers and other stakeholders.
