Looked after children services provide help and support. This includes a range of statutory duties for children and young people in care. Helping them to move towards permanency for those leaving care.
The service is made up of:
- social workers
- personal advisors
- family support workers
They keep in regular contact with looked after children. They make sure they have up-to-date care plans. These workers link with the local support teams and safeguarding units.
Children's disability teams
These provide a complete service to children with a disability, including:
- Short breaks
- Direct payments
- Looked after children's services
Some social work staff are based within the local support teams to provide:
- early intervention support
- access to short breaks services
This is in line with the principles of Families First.
