Electric vehicles

LEVI Fund Allocation

Following the announcement of the Department for Transport Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund Staffordshire County Council will now work closely with its district and borough colleagues and key partners to develop a detailed business plan for submission before the application window ends in December 2023.

Provision of Electric Vehicle charging infrastructure within Staffordshire

We recognise the significant benefits of electric vehicles, particularly in relation to air quality, public health and the reduction of carbon emissions.

To encourage residents of Staffordshire to transition towards electric vehicle ownership we have created a Public EV Charging Toolkit, you can view this by clicking the button below.

Electric vehicle adoption forms part of Staffordshire’s efforts in tackling climate change, along with the decarbonisation of transport in Staffordshire, which forms a key objective of Staffordshire’s Climate Change Action Plan. Due to technological advancements in electric vehicles and innovation of charge points, electric vehicle ownership is ever-growing and is expected to continue as we near the ban of new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 which was announced by the government in 2020. The increased ownership and usage of electric vehicles by residents and visitors of Staffordshire means that the demand for local electric vehicle infrastructure is increasing.

Staffordshire County Council Public Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy

We want to see a coordinated network of charging points across the county that will give residents and visitors the confidence to use electric vehicles. To achieve this, we have developed a strategy that defines the role of the County Council facilitating and supporting local councils alongside the private sector to coordinate the development of accessible public charging infrastructure. The strategy includes a demand analysis which evaluates the options and locations for a public charging network

Charging at home – Where is my nearest public Electric Vehicle charge point?

Charge point maps by Zap-Map show where the nearest charge point is located and allows you to check which charge points are available across Staffordshire allowing you to plan your journey.

Charging at home - EV charging cable crossing the pavement

The County Council does not permit any cable to be placed across the public highway; as it represents a health and safety hazard, and an impediment to the safe use of the highway by the visually and/or mobility impaired, or other affected user groups.

Under the Highways Act 1980, action may be taken to remove cables that are deemed unsuitable or unsafe.

We recognise the difficulties for people without off-street parking. To help with this, we are working alongside district and borough councils and the private sector to facilitate the development of a convenient and accessible network of charging points in Staffordshire.
