Tamworth People Urged to Grab a Jab and Grab a Test This Weekend

Posted on Friday 16th July 2021

People in Tamworth are being urged to get vaccinated and get tested this weekend - in a bid to curb an outbreak of Covid cases across the borough.

Although cases had started to fall, they are on the rise once again and are still around twice both the national and Staffordshire average.

Extra jabs and extra tests are now being offered in the borough in the coming days, with people being able to just turn up without an appointment.. Full details of all the options, including the vaccination and dose type, can be found at:  www.staffordshire.gov.uk/Tamworthextra

Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Health and Care, said:

“Cases remain very high in Tamworth and testing and vaccinating people is the best way to manage this outbreak and protect people.

“We have made it even easier for people to do both, by opening up pop-up clinics where people can just turn up and get a test or a jab on the spot. So, we would encourage as many as possible to have the first or second dose of the vaccine if eligible and get tested if needed over the weekend.”

Options include walk-in vaccinations at Ankerside Shopping Centre on Sunday and walk-in testing at the car park at Sir Robert Peel Hospital daily.

Jeremy Oates, Leader of Tamworth Borough Council, said:

“It is worrying that rates are already rising once again. This weekend really is a window of opportunity for people to play their part and help turn this situation around, protect people’s health and keep Tamworth open for business.”
