Families are in Leek are being urged to get their coronavirus tests before schools return on Monday.
Testing is still available tomorrow (Sunday) at Newton House in Leek, and is bookable via the government testing site. This site will be in Leek until June 12.
All families with links to schools in the area are being urged to get a PCR test before schools return, in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus in the town.
Cases of the Delta Variant of Concern first identified in India have been linked to three schools and two hospitality venues in the area. Staffordshire County Council has asked families to get tested, so any positive tests can be sent for genotyping to discover if there are any more cases of the variant in the community.
Dr Richard Harling, Director for Health and Care at the county council said:
“We’re urging families to get tested as soon as possible, particularly before schools return on Monday. Testing will give people the peace of mind that they are not carrying the virus or at risk of passing it on. Testing also helps us, as every positive test will be sent for genotyping to determine if it is a variant of concern. We can then isolate and trace any further contacts, hopefully stopping the virus in its tracks and preventing any further spread.
“We’ve had a tremendous response to our call for testing so far, and we just want to urge anyone who hasn’t already had a test to get one as soon as possible.”
Testing is being targeted at:
- Families with links to Westwood College, St Edward’s Middle School and Leek High School.
- Families with links to any Leek school
- People who attended The Three Horseshoes Country Inn & Spa, Blackshaw Moor between 24-26 May
- People who attended The Black Lion, Cheddleton between 22-23 May
