Jabs for all adults invitation hailed as important moment

Posted on Friday 18th June 2021

All adults in England can now book their Covid vaccination and the announcement is being hailed as an important moment by Staffordshire Country Council health chiefs.

The Council has been urging younger people to do their bit and not delay in booking their Covid jab and this advice is extended to the final 18-20 age group.

Case rates have been rising in Staffordshire and are up across much of England. Much of the rise is being driven by young people, a Public Health England study suggests.

With the epidemic growing across the nation, opening vaccine invitations for all adults and a final push to get as many people vaccinated is viewed as vital to help keep the virus in check.

Dr Richard Harling, Staffordshire County Council’s director of health and care, said:

“This is an important moment in our fight against the virus – every adult can now book their Covid vaccination, protect themselves and help prevent transmissions spiralling out of control.

“Although there has been a series of successful pop-up vaccine clinics across the county, following this announcement the message can be made clear and simple – all adults, whatever age, should book their jab without delay."

Over 18’s do not need to wait to be contacted by the NHS - people can book their vaccine by visiting the NHS Book a coronavirus vaccination website or calling 119.

If you've been invited to book because you're turning 18 soon, please book your 1st dose vaccination on or after your 18th birthday

Although the 18+ news is welcomed, Richard added:

“There are pockets in the county where vaccine take up is lower than we would like. We need to encourage these communities, along with Staffordshire’s younger residents that getting the vaccine is safe, effective, and will have a huge impact on whether we can get restrictions lifted.

“We have had a successful vaccine rollout in Staffordshire, and there is further work to do to get as many people vaccinated as possible.”
