People urged to make most of vaccine pop-up

Eligible people are being urged to make the most of a pop-up vaccine clinic taking place in Burton this Friday.

The Burton Caribbean Association on Uxbridge Street is hosting a pop-up vaccine clinic for over 36s and all adult members of the same household and the Council and NHS are keen to get as many people jabbed without delay as concerns about the Indian variant grow.

This plea comes as one person living in Burton is currently confirmed with the Indian variant.

Dr Richard Harling, Director of Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council said:

“A very small number of cases have been identified across Staffordshire - which is concerning, as we have seen from other areas how quickly it can get a foothold in a town.

“The best way to prevent this happening is to vaccinate as many people as possible and as quickly as possible.

“I would strongly urge the people of Burton not to delay and take advantage of this pop-up clinic.”

The pop-up vaccine clinic takes place between 11am and 4pm and eligible people can now walk in. Pre-booking is no longer required – jabs are on a first-come-first-vaccinated basis whilst vaccines are available.

Richard continued:

“Worryingly most of the hospitalised cases in Bolton were people eligible for their first jab but hadn’t had it.

“As we are learning more about the emerging variants and what the affects it is having in other areas the call for people to get vaccinated without delay is getting louder.

“Friday’s pop-up vaccine clinic is a great opportunity for Burton residents to get the protection they need now.”

Dr Shammy Noor of the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Vaccination Programme added:

“This will be our fourth pop-up vaccine centre in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent and each of them have been a great success with almost 900 people vaccinated so far.

“Holding them in the very heart of the community helps get the message across that they are safe, effective and it’s not a complicated process. It’s been a good way to overcome some of the barriers that potentially exist and I’m sure this next pop–up vaccine clinic in Burton will prove popular .

“People should let their family, friends and colleagues know that this pop-up is happening.”

The Burton Caribbean Association pop-up clinic is for first vaccine doses only.
