One hundred acts of kindness commended by Lord-Lieutenant

Posted on Wednesday 9th December 2020

A 17-year-old Whittington boy’s remarkable one hundred acts of kindness and fundraising achievements were commended by Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant for Staffordshire.

Sebbie Hall, who has learning and physical difficulties, has performed a random act of kindness every single day since March, raising nearly £10,000 for charity in the process. These series of extraordinary acts merited a special thank you presentation outside Lichfield’s Cathedral.

Lord-Lieutenant, Ian Dudson, CBE KStJ heard about Sebbie’s outstanding achievements and acts of selflessness from Seb’s mother, Ashley and was happy to help organise a special presentation attended also by The Very Revd Dean of Lichfield, Adrian Dorber.

Since the onset of lockdown in March, Sebbie has performed daily random acts of kindness to raise money for other disabled children who have communication difficulties.

This whole idea was first triggered when Seb wanted to speak to his friend on Zoom when schools closed for the first national lockdown. Unfortunately, his friend did not have access to a phone or tablet - it was explained to Seb that not everyone does.

Seb immediately looked to his savings to buy his friend a device to stop him being lonely. Quickly realising this only helped one person, the seed was set to try and to do something about this issue.

Other acts of kindness throughout the year have included leaving change at his local laundrette, giving out biscuits to local police officers, helping neighbours with dog walks and gardening; collecting waste leftovers for foodbanks and collecting and distributing warm coats for the homeless and other charities.

Ian Dudson, Staffordshire’s Lord-Lieutenant said:

“There have been wonderful acts of generosity and community support witnessed throughout this pandemic.

“Sebbie has helped dozens of other children, not to mention the recipients of his varied acts of kindness and at just 17 years of age, I feel his actions and spirit can act as an inspiration to us all.

“To meet and present him with his thank you card today is just a small way that we can commend him on his special contribution and fundraising achievements.”

As well as a Lord-Lieutenant thank you card, Seb has received ‘A Points of Lights Award’ from the PM, a national volunteers award from the West Midland’s Lord Mayor and been championed by Ex-England Rugby player Will Greenwood and actress Mina Anwar.

Dr Johnny McMahon, Cabinet Member for Health, Care and Wellbeing, added:

“I’d like to pay a huge tribute to Seb’s valiant efforts. It’s heart-warming to hear stories such as this right here in Staffordshire, especially through the recent challenging times, where so many of us have had to make adjustments to their personal lives.

“It shows that looking out for each other and small acts of kindness can really have a positive impact.

“Seb has obviously taken this to the next  level. I applaud him on this remarkable accomplishment and wish him well on his fund raising ambitions and future endeavours.”

On his acts of kindness and fundraising achievements, Seb gave a simple message:

“I really believe random acts of kindness are a superpower - I just happen to be lucky that it seems to be my superpower.”

Seb’s dream is to raise £10,000 for disadvantaged children by Christmas – he is currently less than £200 off his target, Just Giving, Sebbie Hall
