Residents are being urged to stay home and stay safe, after a band of snow covered lower ground in parts of the county in the early hours today.
If people do need to make an essential journey, such as for work, then they are being warned to slow down and take extra care on the roads.
Staffordshire County Council’s 40 plus gritters were out overnight and are back on the roads once again this morning gritting key routes.
David Williams. Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said:
“Our gritting crews always do a fantastic job, working in very difficult conditions to help people who do need to drive get to where they need to go safely.
“This year is very different and the combination of the Bank Holiday today and the Covid Tier 3 restrictions means more people will be staying home today.
“The grit does also need traffic to travel over it to work effectively, which means on a quieter day like today, snow and ice can be lying for some time.
“So, our advice today is to stay home if you can. If your journey is absolutely necessary, slow down, take extra care and allow extra time for your trip.”
The council’s army of gritters were out overnight and deployed once again from dawn. They will be gritting primary routes first before moving on to the extended network if necessary.
Snowploughs have also been deployed in Werrington and Biddulph Moor where levels of snow have settled. The snow showers are expected to turn to rain by lunchtime.
