Drivers are being urged to take care as icy conditions continue in Staffordshire with the county’s gritting teams working around the clock.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said it is vital that people drive with extra care in accordance with the conditions.

David added:

Our gritting teams are working hard through these conditions to keep Staffordshire moving but we are reminding people to drive with extra care.

We are expecting the cold weather to continue throughout this week with icy roads and the chance of snow. Our fleet of 40 gritters have been busy over the last few nights and will continue to work hard throughout this week with more sub-zero temperatures forecast.

People should only drive if absolutely necessary – we want people to have a safe and enjoyable remainder of the holiday period.”

Staffordshire County Council’s gritting crews will be operating on all the main highway routes and extending to the wider network through the prolonged ice and snow conditions.
