A £360,000 road improvement scheme in Cheadle town centre has been completed following careful planning and coordination.
The scheme has seen repairs carried out on the A522 Tape Street and High Street. On Tape Street all pavements were resurfaced, kerbs replaced, drains repaired and patching carried out on the road. Road repairs were also carried out on High Street.
While the scheme was in progress, utility companies also carried out repairs to minimise disruption.
While work was carried out, all access was maintained to town centre businesses, including B&M and Iceland. Temporary traffic signals were used and also a one-way road closure was in place throughout the scheme. All road resurfacing and patching work took place at night.
Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport David Williams said:
Ensuring our town centre roads are well maintained is vital to the local economy and we’re pleased our investment in Cheadle is making a difference.
This scheme has been completed on time and on budget. It was carefully planned to minimise disruption to people and businesses with patching work taking place at night and utility companies carrying out their repairs at the same time.
With any works in busy locations there will inevitably be some disruption, but we have worked with the community to keep them informed throughout the scheme. “We’d like to thank everyone for their patience while work was carried out.”

I would like to thank local residents and businesses for their cooperation, patience and understanding whilst these works were being carried out. I am delighted to see the works fully completed on time.”
