Dozens of groups and organisations working with vulnerable communities in Staffordshire are set to benefit from a new county council fund launched today (Monday 12 October 2020).

The £200k #DoingOurBit Community Grants Scheme is now open for applications from groups who work with and support vulnerable communities, particularly older residents and families.

Projects that support older people to be more independent, reduce social isolation or helps improve their general health and wellbeing are likely to be eligible for the funding. Likewise, groups or schemes that help families stay together, support them to reach their full potential, or help them improve their general health and wellbeing are also likely to be eligible.

Victoria Wilson, Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture at Staffordshire County Council said:

“We have a thriving voluntary and community sector in Staffordshire. These groups make a real difference to the lives of people in our local communities every day and we hope the funding will help them continue to do this.

“Not only do these groups provide vital services and support within their local communities but they also help to encourage people to support each other to remain safe and well.

“The scheme is now open with £200,000 funding available and I would encourage organisations to check if they are eligible and make an application.”

Staffordshire County Council works closely with SCVYS (Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services) and Support Staffordshire to support the sector and help get local communities acting on the issues that are important to them.

Garry Jones, Chief Executive at Support Staffordshire is urging local groups to make an application. Garry said:

“There are hundreds of amazing voluntary and community organisations making a huge difference in local communities and we’re all grateful for the work they do.

“The new funding is very welcome and I would definitely encourage groups large and small to have a look and make an application.”

Phil Pusey, Chief Executive at SCVYS added:

"Any additional funding to support the voluntary sector, who have gone above and beyond in their support of local people is welcomed.

“We hope that this funding will help to ensure small, local organisations remain an important part of building healthy, thriving communities where people of all ages feel valued and can access the help they need to live well."

The fund closes on Monday 9 November 2020.
