Recognition of both of Staffordshire’s universities in a national awards shortlisting demonstrates the county’s growing reputation as a prime location for innovation and investment, its deputy leader said today.

Keele University and Staffordshire University have both been shortlisted for the Times Higher Education Awards 2020, University of the Year category. The awards recognise outstanding work across all university activities, from academia to business performance.

Staffordshire County Council’s deputy leader and cabinet member for economy and skills Philip White said:

We know both of our universities are outstanding – providing the best quality learning provision for students, enabling vital research and development and helping to develop our communities.

The county council and local enterprise partnership work closely with both as we look to grow our economy and create opportunities for people and business. Both are internationally acclaimed for their innovation and ambition.

It is of no surprise to us then that they have been nationally recognised in these top sector awards. It will not go unnoticed by industry, investors and Government that our county has two of the best universities in the country.”
