Families in Cannock are set to benefit from a new project giving access to  free Pre-used school Uniforms.

The Pre-Loved Uniform Market is an open access hub where families can collect items of clothing at key dates during the year to help support families with their children’s school uniform needs.

The market will stock school trousers, skirts, shirts, ties and branded school sweatshirts for all ages.

The first market will take place at The Salvation Army, in Cannock on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th April, 11am until 2pm. With further sessions taking place at Cannock Library during 2020. At the end of August families will also be able to access the market ahead of the new term in September.

The project is being coordinated by Staffordshire County Council’s libraries service in partnership with The Salvation Army and is funded through the county council’s People Helping People Fund.

The project has received £750 funding from County Councillors Phil Hewitt, Bryan Jones and David Williams (£250 each).

Phil Hewett, Cabinet Support Member for Communities at Staffordshire County Council said:

“Staffordshire Libraries sit at the heart of our local communities and provide lots of great services and activities that help local families. This is a really simple project, which I’ve been able to fund through my People Helping People fund to help families with school age children in the local area.

“Our local community fund is about giving the community a chance to take the lead on the projects that matter to them and can make a big difference. There’s lots of different projects being funded, all of which are helping improve people’s lives.”

Staffordshire County Councillor Bryan Jones added:

"This is a wonderful project that not only helps local families in Cannock but also helps the environment at the same time.  Our People Helping People funding that we have is ideal for these kinds of projects which directly benefits local communities.

“This project allows families in the Cannock area to access free pre-worn school uniforms, helping out with household budgets and supporting families to reduce, reuse and recycle more.  Families can find out more by dropping into their local library.”

It’s estimated that 10,000 items of clothing are sent to landfill every five minutes in the United Kingdom.

Leaflets containing dates for 2020 markets are available from Libraries in the Cannock Chase area.  For more information or to make a donation of a uniform contact Cannock library or email kerry.hutchings@staffordshire.gov.uk
