People from Uttoxeter interested in working in the social care sector or looking to advance their career can find out more at a free information event.

The event, being organised by Staffordshire County Council’s Care Market Development Team hopes to attract new people into the sector and help those already in it to develop their skills.

Staff from the team will be available to talk to people about the different types of jobs available and employers will be recruiting to current vacancies on the days. Care providers will also be on hand with information and advice on qualifications available in social care.

The event is being held on Friday 22 November at Uttoxeter Library, High Street, Uttoxeter, from 10am – 2pm.

Richard Harling, Director for Health & Care at Staffordshire County Council said:

“Our number one priority is to make sure that people in Staffordshire can access the best care possible and to do this we need to have the right people in the sector.

“The need for care of one sort or another is growing as our population becomes older. It’s one of the few parts of the economy which is guaranteed to grow strongly for years to come and with this brings new jobs and career opportunities.

“Working in care can be an extremely rewarding profession and our events are the perfect way of finding out what’s involved, along with a chance to talk to employers about current vacancies. I would encourage anyone interested in starting, or looking to further develop their career in care to come along.”

Even in challenging economic times the care sector continues to expand. Adult social care currently employs 1.63 million people in England and is expected to grow to over 2 million by 2025. Within Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent, there are currently 17,000 jobs within the adult social care sector which is also expected to grow over the next few years.

The Department of Health and Social Care is currently promoting the  ‘Every Day is Different’ campaign, a National Campaign which supports the recruitment of more people into the adult social care sector. Visit https://www.everydayisdifferent.com/home.aspx to find out more.
