Library Service Updates

People reminded of last opportunity to return overdue books before fees reinstated

People with overdue library books in Staffordshire are being reminded of their last opportunity to return them before charges for the late return of library items are re-introduced from 1 July 2023.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Staffordshire libraries suspended these charges and, for their reintroduction, the charges will remain at 2020 prices.

From 1 July, any outstanding library items from pre-pandemic times will have the maximum charge of £6 per item applied, as well as a replacement charge if items are lost or damaged. It will not take long for other items due back in the last couple of months to reach the same maximum charge, when those charges start to be added in from 23 July.

Charges will be applied from the due date of the items, and the cost per overdue item, for each day the issuing library is open, is 25p as standard, and 15p where concessionary charges are made.

Children under-18 will be exempt from overdue charges.

Library customers are also being reminded of the things they can do to help avoid any cost by renewing their books before the due date. Every library member can ask for a PIN so that they can access their library account online or via the Staffordshire Libraries: Your Library App. Alternatively, people can contact their local library directly, call the 24-hour renewal line or request a reminder email to be set up on their account.

You can find out more information about how to access your library account on our website.
