When 36-year-old Emily found out she was expecting Nathan, she wanted to make sure she was doing all she could to give him the best start possible. Growing up with a mum who is a midwife, taking care of babies is second nature but Emily wanted to make sure she was supporting Nathan’s developmental needs, too.
After spotting a post on social media, she signed up to receive Hungry Little Minds updates while she was still pregnant with Nathan, who celebrated his first birthday in July 2025.
Emily said,
“I’ve had lots to do with babies, but having your own is very different. Nate is my first child, so I was keen to learn about all the ways I could help his development. I only use trusted sources for guidance, so Hungry Little Minds was perfect!
“The tips and reminders are great, and I found out about lots of free activities. It's so helpful for first-time mums, and parents in general. I would encourage everyone to sign up.”
While on maternity leave, Emily took advantage of the free Bounce and Rhyme sessions at her local library, after finding out about them through one of her twice-monthly Hungry Little Minds updates.
Emily added,
“We made lots of friends at our local Bounce and Rhyme sessions. Nate loved them and he always joined in with the nursery rhymes. Five Little Ducks and Old MacDonald Had a Farm are particular favourites. He loves the tactile songs too, like Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes.
“Nate loves to read, and he gets so excited when I get books out. Although he doesn’t know the words, he knows the actions. He turns the pages, babbles and enjoys the brightly coloured pictures.
“He loves to dance and he loves animals. I think a lot of his confidence comes from having so much positive interaction at such an early age.”
Emily met her husband Kelsey at Telford Comic Con in 2012, and the couple married four years later. They both work for the NHS, Emily as a post-diagnostic support worker and Kelsey in cyber security. Kelsey has also spent the past 11 years as a wedding photographer.
Although they’re busy people, they continue to fit Hungry Little Minds activities into their evenings and weekends. And the happy family is thriving.
