Branston Locks – A38 (T) Branston Interchange Improvement
The next phase of the Branston Locks 400-acre mixed use development scheme is due to commence during 2022. The works will initially involve the A38 (T) northbound off slip-lane embankment being widened, widening of Branston Road on the south side, carriageway resurfacing and the installation of new traffic signals to the existing A38 (T) Branston Interchange. The works are being carried out under the planning permission P/2012/01467 and are funded by Nurton Developments Ltd. Drawing number ‘D0216G-C12-R01-01 R0 Condition 12 General Arrangement shows the proposed works’.
In order to avoid ecological constraints due to the bird nesting season, an advance works contract is being progressed. Commencing on 31 January 2022 for approximately five weeks, an area of existing trees and vegetation will need to be removed, in order to widen the existing A38 (T) northbound off-slip road embankment and the south side of Branston Road. The trees will be removed from the north side of the A38 subway along the west side of the off-slip road to the entrance into Branston Road and can be seen on drawing ‘D0216G-C12-R02-01 R1 Condition 12 Vegetation Clearance’. Further traffic management details will be provided shortly.
The main junction improvement works are planned to commence late Spring 2022.
On completion of the junction improvement works an extensive new landscaping contract will be carried out, including planting of new trees on the widened embankment. These will be native, predominantly broad leaved with some evergreen species. The planning condition 13 scheme landscaping drawing is ‘D0216G_R30_01 R2 Proposed Landscaping’.
