B5017 Shobnall Road / Forest Road, Burton upon Trent

Shobnall Road - Works Update Wednesday 12 April 2023

As we continue towards completion of the carriageway patching works, we would like to confirm our intention to have the route through Shobnall Road and Forest Road fully re-opened no later than the evening of Friday 21 April 2023.

We had intended to complete by 17 April but have agreed to a further extension to the programme to allow for the lost days due to the winter weather event of early March and also to undertake a further carriageway patch near to Reservoir Road and Lordswell Road that has been requested outside of the original scope of works.

As previous, the arrangement remains the same that outside of the working hours of 8am and 5pm the route will continue to be open to residents and businesses that require access, and the provision allowing for the school bus services to safely pass in the morning and afternoon will continue.

We apologise for the continued inconvenience that these works may be causing, for all future enquiries relating to progress and completion, please refer back to this webpage for the most up to date advice.

Shobnall Road - Works Update Monday 13 March 2023

As you would have been aware, we should have had the site near to Marston Brewery resurfaced and open to all traffic late last week, but due to the forecasted snow the decision was made to postpone the surfacing until a clearer weather window.

We are now programmed to resurface this site on Tuesday 14 March with the road re-opening later that afternoon.

In the meantime, the site team have this morning (Monday 13 March) continued their works at Sites 4/5 (Forest Road) which was originally due to commence on Friday 10 March, hence all traffic entering and exiting via the town centre direction today.

Tomorrow will see this arrangement revert to entry via Henhurst Hill whilst we undertake the final resurfacing near to Marston’s brewery with the road being re-opened during the afternoon.

From Wednesday onwards we will then continue along Forest Road between the hours of 8am to 5pm, with all traffic needing to enter and exit via the burton town centre direction until we complete this phase of the works in April 2023.

Outside of the working hours of 8am and 5pm the route will continue to be open to residents and businesses that require access, and the provision allowing for the school bus services to safely pass in the morning and afternoon will continue.

We apologise for the continued inconvenience that these works may be causing, for all future enquiries relating to progress and completion, please refer back to this webpage for the most up to date advice.

The works will see Amey Services Ltd working with Staffordshire County Council undertake several deep construction carriageway patches at five locations along both Shobnall Road and Forest Road.

The works are required following the carriageway recycling scheme of 2019, and whilst every effort is made by Staffordshire County Council and their delivery partners to deliver sustainable solutions at the best possible value, unfortunately on rare occasions solutions do not perform as we had hoped.

Since resurfacing in 2019, sadly we have seen some early life defects forming in the carriageway on Shobnall Road and Forest Road which require repair in order to provide a safe means of travel through this part of the county.

During this time, we will undertake the reconstruction of the carriageway, the resetting of the ironwork and the replacing of the road markings.

When are the works taking place?

The works will commence on Monday 30 January 2023.

How long will the works take?

Approximately 4 weeks to complete the works.

Will I be able to access my home/business?

There will a temporary road closure in place to prohibit through traffic for the duration of the works, but access to properties and businesses along the length of the works will be available throughout the job although may be restricted at times as we carry out these essential repairs.

What effect could the works have on me?

We take care to make sure that work is completed with the minimum of disturbance to the local community but as with any major works, some minor traffic delays may occur.

How you can help us

You can help us to get the job done with the minimum of fuss by following this advice:

  • Please keep children away from the works to ensure their safety.
  • Please drive appropriately through the works.
  • Check your shoes before entering your property or car to make sure there is no bitumen from the works.
  • Please do not park within the vicinity of the planned works
