Shape how children with SEND are supported

Staffordshire’s SEND Strategy

The county council and Staffordshire’s Clinical Commissioning Groups are working with others to improve the way children with special education needs and disabilities (SEND) are supported.

An important part of this is agreeing a set of principles that will guide the way professionals across education, health and social care will support children and young people, as well as setting out the commitments made by our communities and families.

These principles will form Staffordshire’s SEND Strategy.

How we are developing the strategy

People may have different views around what the strategy should include, so we want to hear from as many people as possible before we work with a small group of professionals, parents and young people to set out a draft, formally consult on it and then agree it.

The outline timeline for this is below.

Outline timeline

Hear from professionals, parents, children and young people and other members of the community on what currently works well, what could be improved and their ideas for what could be done differently.

22 June – 17 July 2020

Take what we have heard and look for the themes.

20 July – 27 July 2020

Co-produce and draft

Work with a small group of professionals, parents, children and young people to take the themes and agree an outline strategy.

27 July – 1 September 2020

Formally consult on the draft strategy with members of the public.

7 September – 25 October 2020

Final amends

Make any final amends following consultation.

26 – 31 October 2020

Formally agree the strategy at key boards/meetings including the Quality Committee and at a meeting of Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet.

By 13 November 2020

Share the final strategy to ensure it is used and understood.

From 16 November 2020 (subject to approval)
