ICT courses available

What's on offer?

We are now delivering face to face courses in some libraries and at the University of Wolverhampton in Stafford.

Latest news - Digital Library Skills

IT courses are back and face to face in libraries. During the covid restrictions more and more people started to use Staffordshire’s Digital Library Services. 

To help with this demand we have a new Digital Library Skills Course, covering Library free wifi, eBooks, eMagazines, audio books, ancestry, book and computer reservations and the Online Catalogue. Also the basics of using the internet and email safely.

Courses for beginners

We have a range of courses that are suitable for people who are new to ICT and would like to develop their skills for everyday use, volunteering and employment. 

These are: 

  • Online Essentials 
  • Laptop Essentials 
  • iPad Essentials 

The courses normally last around 5 – 6 weeks and include guidance on the basic use of a computer or device, internet, e-mail and staying safe online. 

These courses are free of charge for all learners who are Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over.

Essential Digital Skills Entry 3 and Level 1 Award

We provide opportunities for you to gain a nationally recognised qualification in: 

  • Word processing 
  • Internet 
  • E-mail and electronic calendars. 
  • Video Calling 

These are longer courses about 40 - 50 hours long and are currently available in Stafford, Newcastle, Tamworth, Cannock, Burton and Lichfield.  

The qualifications are free for all learners who Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over.

Other Courses

We also offer online courses. They are 10 hours long and cost £45 to Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who are interested in developing their ICT skills now and in the future. Courses include: 

  • Get started with blogging 
  • Get digital with online apps 
  • Using the Digital Cloud for everyday 
  • Becoming confident with social media 
  • Discovering online services 
  • Online safety essentials for parents 
  • Getting the most from your iPad 
  • Stay connected using video calling

What are the entry requirements?

You will have an interview with a tutor consisting of a short discussion and a small reading and writing task to find out your level of learning. You will discuss the results with the tutor and agree what level you will study at. 

These courses are for learners who are: 

  • Staffordshire resident aged 19+ 
  • Have a legal right to be resident in the United Kingdom
