Conduct a speed survey on Leech Avenue, Newcastle

Dear Cllr Spence,

I refer to the petition, signed by local residents regarding the request to conduct a speed survey on Leech Avenue, Newcastle.  I can advise you that receipt of the petition will be reported to Cllr Helen Fisher, Cabinet Member for Highways & Transport.

The County Council is aware of longstanding local concerns relating to traffic speeds and volumes on Leech Avenue. These matters have been investigated previously and the community was consulted for two separate proposals that might have provided remedy to the concerns they had raised.

None of the proposals were met with sufficient support from the local community however and therefore the Council was unable to progress the matter any further. Details of the concerns remain on the Divisional Highway Programme (DHP) for the local County Councillor. Whilst the reported problems are not currently prioritised for further investigation over other highway concerns within the division, it may be revisited again in the future and a copy of the petition will be recorded on the DHP file.

Should you require further information regarding your petition please contact David Greatbatch (Community Infrastructure Liaison Manager), on (01538) 483022.

Yours sincerely

Amanda Felton
