Thinking about becoming a childminder and where to start

Interested in becoming an Ofsted registered childminder in Staffordshire? If so Entrust have created a useful guide which provides information about the costs, expectations and training that is involved, and questions to ask yourself before embarking on the journey to become a childminder.

Please read through the guide and if you are interested in proceeding with registration you should email or telephone Entrust who you can help on your pathway.

Instead of contacting Entrust and registering with Ofsted, prospective childminders could register with an agency instead.

Setting up a childcare business: nursery, preschool, wraparound - support required and business advice

There is more to registering and operating as a childcare provider than many people think.

This guide produced by Entrust gives information about legal obligations, expectations and training that is involved before embarking on the journey to become a provider of quality childcare. The guide is suitable for people working in the private, voluntary and independent sector.

The Entrust Early Years Business Team can also advise you on the business aspects of childcare provision. Specifically looking at areas where childcare is needed.

Local data and local sufficiency information is available for prospective providers to review.

Early Years training and qualifications

Entrust can support you and your staff to remain up-to-date with the latest information on continuing professional development and qualifications that will help your childcare business to achieve the highest quality and outcomes.

Staffordshire leaders' and managers' network meetings

Networking with like-minded professionals can be very supportive as you are able to discuss topics and share information. The sessions are held on a termly basis and are normally located in an early years setting in each district.

The sessions are facilitated by a lead practitioner from an early years setting and an Entrust Early Years Quality Support Consultant is available to provide a sector update. Contact them for further details.

Applying for Early Education Funding (EEF)

If you are a childcare provider and you wish to register to offer funded childcare places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds, providers can download the relevant forms to complete.

Free advertising for your childcare business

Your business can get free online advertising through the Staffordshire Connects website.

This is a very popular site used by parents looking for childcare. Through this site you can register free of charge to gain access to an account for your childcare record already provided to us by Ofsted.

Once registered childcare provider can log into your account and will be able to update vacancies, opening hours, childcare costs and much more.
