Staffordshire Independent Visiting

This project is a partnership between SOVA and the Staffordshire Children and Lifelong Learning Through Care Service.

The project recruits, trains and supports volunteers to become independent visitors for looked after children and young people.

Our independent visitors encourage young people to demonstrate resilience. They support them to gain skills required to make the transition to independent living.

Volunteers are matched with a child or young person, aged 8 to 18. They may need extra support and encouragement. Often this is because they have little contact with their own families. It could also be because it would be in their interests to receive extra one to one support.

The independent visitor can promote long term outcomes such as reducing social isolation, raising aspirations, increasing independence skills and provide support to build social skills, confidence and self-esteem.
