SEND Hub Roll Out

Posted on Thursday 29th August 2019

A new local approach to supporting children in Staffordshire with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

From September 2019, the local authority, in partnership with local schools and practitioners will be rolling out a new way of working that will see partners coming together at regular district ‘Hub’ meetings to better support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in their local area.

The new ‘Hub’ meetings will bring local schools and partners together so they can help children and young people get the right support, at the right time. The Hubs will operate as a support mechanism helping to make decisions in the local area and to meet the needs of children and young people with SEND in their district.

The aim of the local Hub meetings is to:

  • Ensure that local children with special needs get the support they need at the earliest point.

  • Make sure that local schools are working together to share knowledge around the best ways to support children with special needs.

  • Ensure that existing special needs funding is being used to its full potential to provide good value for money and good services that meet a variety of needs so that local children can thrive.

As a result of the new way of working, we hope that…

  • more children and young people will be better supported within their local school.

  • the needs of children and young people will be met whilst balancing planning, affordability and sustainability.

  • there will be good levels of achievement for all children with SEND.

Following an 18 month trial in South Staffordshire and Leek, the district Hub model will be rolled out across the County in a phased approach over the next academic year.
The proposed schedule for roll out is:

  • Tamworth & Cannock – Autumn Term 2019

  • Newcastle & Stafford – Spring Term 2020

  • Lichfield & East Staffordshire - Summer Term 2020.

South Staffordshire will continue to develop their Hub model whilst Leek will extend their model over the coming months to include Moorlands schools.
