Contacting Staffordshire County Council is now easier and more convenient than ever thanks to a brand new general enquiries number.

The new county council number - 0300 111 8000 - has replaced the former switchboard number of 01785 223 121.

The phone number is charged at local rate and forms part of the county council's large scale campaign to make it easier for people to access their services.

New extended opening hours allow Staffordshire residents to access a range of services from 8am-8pm Monday - Thursday, 8am-6pm on Friday and 9am-1pm on Saturday.

That's around 30 per cent more availability that in the past, and it is the first time the public has been able to get into direct contact with the county council during the evening and at the weekend.

The easy to remember number will act as a gateway to the hundreds of services that Staffordshire County Council offers to people across the area. It will also ensure that queries are dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Leader of Staffordshire County Council Philip Atkins said: "The new telephone number is part of our customer service commitment. Residents are our number one priority and we need to be here at times to suit them.

"The more convenient hours are crucial. The former number was only available during 'office' hours, which is obviously not ideal for people who work those hours too.

"We also felt there was a need to get away from a Stafford dialling code. Stafford is important, but Staffordshire is a large, diverse county, and all parts are of equal importance to us."
