The European Policy Officer is responsible for formulating , directing the implementation, monitoring and reviewing of the County Council's European Policy Framework which provides guidance on the County Council's engagement with Europe.
In particular, advice and support is provided to the County Council and its partners and partnerships on emerging European legislation, policy, funding programmes and networking opportunities.
The role includes engaging with regional partners to ensure that Staffordshire's views are reflected in the development of regional EU funded programmes.
Advice and support is also provided on rural policy and other cross cutting Directorate and Corporate issues, such as Local Area Agreements, as required.
State / Regional Aid
Brussels, 21st December 2006:
The European Commission has approved under EC Treaty state aid rules the regional aid maps covering the period 2007-2013 for Austria, Finland, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
These decisions form part of a wider exercise to review regional aid systems in all Member States in accordance with the new Regional Aid Guidelines adopted in December 2005.
The new Guidelines aim at re-focussing regional aid on the most deprived regions of the enlarged EU, while allowing to improve competitiveness and to provide for a smooth transition.
The maps of thirteen other Member States have already been approved by the Commission.

On behalf of the Regional Partnership, Advantage West Midlands held an event to launch the new ERDF Programme for the West Midlands. This event outlined the importance of ERDF to the region, the vision for the future and provided details on the content of the new Programme including how to apply for funding.
