Safer and stronger communities
We know that one of your main priorities is to feel safe where you live.
The county council works with other partners, such as Staffordshire Police, to make this a reality.
Our vision is for individuals, neighbourhoods and communities to feel safe in Staffordshire, and to be increasingly free from crime and fear of crime. Communities will become stronger and more able to work with us to deliver improving and appropriate services for a better quality of life. We will invest £17.5m over three years to achieve this.

We will:
Work with local Community Safety Partnerships (also known as Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnerships) to reduce serious and acquisitive crime
Reduce the fear of crime
Reduce the harm caused by illegal drugs and alcohol
Improve our partnership working to address domestic violence
Build respect in communities and reduce anti-social behaviour and youth crime
Make the roads safer for all road users
Engage with communities so they have a greater choice and influence over local
decision making and a greater role in public service delivery.
We're constantly developing new services and initiatives to help you stay safe. Here's just a few of them:
- No-win, no-fee - The national Claims Management Monitoring and Compliance Unit, which is provided by Staffordshire County Council under contract to the Ministry of Justice, regulates claims management businesses, such as 'no- win no fee' companies on a national scale. The unit has just been given the thumbs up from the County Council's Network as a beacon of good practice, and is now expanding to cope with the huge surge in companies needing authorisation to trade. It has been hugely successful in protecting consumers against rogue companies
- Street lighting replacement project - A multi-million pound project to replace over 100,000 street lights.
- The work of the Youth Offending Service - helping to prevent and tackle youth crime.
- The work of the 'outstanding' Youth Service in engaging with young people, particularly hard to reach youth.
- The development of safer routes to schools, including supervised 'Walking Buses' and a reduction in traffic congestion.
- Huge safety improvements in the design of highways.
- Huge emphasis on targeting alcohol and substance abuse.
- A network of community watchdogs
and much more.
