Find out more about county council services for older people and healthier communities

Our services for adults and older people have recently been inspected and are now judged to be 'good.'

Staffordshire County Council: supporting older people

Our vision is to improve health outcomes and narrow health inequalities through promoting healthy choices and tackling the key determinants of poor health and improving quality of services.

Furthermore, wherever possible to provide older and vulnerable people with greater control over their own lives to live safely and heathily, have an active role in the community and access the support they need to be as independent as they choose.

We envisage spending £184.8m over three years to deliver the healthier communities and older people aim.

Form 2008 to 2011 we will:

  • Improve the quality of life for vulnerable adults and older people by ensuring that, wherever possible, people can live independently and can access the support they need.
  • Ensure that service users are involved in shaping the delivery if services so that they are appropriate to individual's needs.
  • Ensure that services are developed to focus on and deliver prevention.
  • Improve the accessibility of information about the range of servies available to people in their local area.
  • Effectively put in place the 'Changing Lives' programme for vulnerable people to achieve independent living.
  • Work in partnership with the NHS and the district and borough council to provide information, advice and training about health and well-being.
  • Support the carers of vulnerable and and older people both in their caring role and in maintaining their quality of life.
