Highways and Transport
Investment in the roads and public transport is vital for the future prosperity of Staffordshire and keeping the county on the move is fundamental to the economy.
Our prime focus has to be the economy and our highways and public transport services clearly play a vital role."
Staffordshire is a diverse county with very rural areas such as the Moorlands and large towns. A one size fits all approach does not work and I am a firm supporter of the move towards localism which has led to local councillors being given more responsibility over highways in their local area.
As an administration, we recognise that Staffordshire's roads need improving and that is why we have allocated an investment of £30 million over three years.
My new Cabinet role adds transportation planning and public transport to my previous responsibilities for highways.
We need to attract more people on to public transport and to look at different ways of doing that.
Our proposals to provide 24/7 concessionary bus travel to older and disabled people, and to provide the under 20s with bus journeys for a flat-rate fee of £1 are also a crucial part of this."
